Spicy Hot Chocolate

DAIRY-FREE, VEGAN

Prep time: 10 minutes | Servings: 4

This spicy hot chocolate is like the sexier cousin of the hot chocolate I grew up with. It’s thick and cozy but not too sweet, and it’s full of rich chocolaty flavor that makes it feel like more of a dessert than a drink. The nutmeg and cinnamon add extra flavor, and a kick of cayenne pepper takes the chocolate to a whole new level. Of course, it’s perfect on a cold night, but I also love to load it in a blender with ice and serve it frozen on a summer day.

1 (13.66-ounce) can unsweetened coconut cream

1½ cups sugar-free vanilla almond milk

4 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder

3 tablespoons brown erythritol blend

1 teaspoon cinnamon, plus more for sprinkling on top

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

⅛ teaspoon nutmeg

⅛ teaspoon cayenne pepper

1 . In a small saucepan over low heat, combine the coconut cream, almond milk, cocoa powder, brown sweetener, cinnamon, vanilla, nutmeg, and cayenne pepper.

2 . Whisk occasionally until heated through.

3 . Pour into glasses, and top with a sprinkle of cinnamon.

SPICE IT UP

This drink doesn’t need much more, but you could spice it up with a little more cayenne or even spike it with a shot of tequila.
